ARULMOZHIVARMAN


Arulmozhivarman is none but RajaRaja Chola.
Even though the novel has been named after him he doesn't come as frequent as his friend Vandhiyadhevan.

He is shown as a down to earth person. On one of his conversations he says he doesn't want to be an emperor. He just wants to be a common man. We don't get to see his valour as many times as Vandhiyadhevan. But he is showcased as a better warrior than Vandhiyadhevan . One their first meeting Vandhiyadhevan can't withstand the attacks of Arulmozhi.

His characterisation is spot on by Kalki. The way he introduces him everytime with a small twist is awesome. Kalki hints at what inspired him to build Thanjai Periya Kovil.

Arulmozhi is born and brought up by his elder sister Kundhavai. His respect for his sister is too great. He values his friendship the same way too. He risks his life for saving his friend in the sea.

He loves Vanathi the friend of Kundhavai. But the problem is we know his feelings only in the last chapter. He is selfless. The major twist in the last chapters was too awesome for me. All I knew was RajaRaja would become a king.  But there is a small change in that.

So Arulmozhi is the second hero of the novel . He is more of a dream boy for women. Read it to fall in love with him

         VALLAVARAYAN VANDHIYATHEVAN

Vandhiyathevan is the hero of the novel and only through him that we see most of the characters of the film. So it is my duty to start explaining about his character.

When Kalki first started developing his character it was done only as a second hero while Arulmozhi will be the hero. But the character impressed him a lot and as a result Kalki made him the protagonist.

He is a prince of vanarkulam but he was not a legal heir of vanarkulam. He was born to the third wife of the king. He was a soldier in the northern border of Chola kingdom. There he became friends with Adithya Karikala and Kandhamaran.

The beauty in the character of Vandhiyadhevan is that he is not perfect. He gets out of situations only through luck , does mistakes and get caught. He is not a perfect human being like Ponniyin Selvan. But the way he uses his wit and luck to get out of the situation impresses her.

He loves kundavai pirati . Manimegalai loves him. There is also a reference in the novel that Nandhini loved him. He knows his stands and he is a perfect gentleman. He is the only one in the novel who doesn't fall for Nandhini. That is why kundavai fell for him. He is cool in all the tough situations. Even when Nandhini hods him in the tip of the sword he flirts with her.

He is one of the best novel heroes. Just like what Kalki said Let you live forever the best friend of Arulmozhi Varman....
